PhD Biotechnology

Since inception, the Biotechnology Centre has grown to become one of the foremost authorities in biotechnology and related research in Ghana and has been participating in advocacy and training workshops in biotechnology and related fields for various stakeholders in West Africa and beyond. Since its establishment, the Centre has delivered on its mandate of providing facilities for teaching and research support to all other units within the University of Ghana and beyond in the area of new biological assays and techniques. To enhance the visibility and impact of the Biotechnology Centre on national development, PhD programme in Biotechnology with options in plant science, animal science, soil and environmental science and food science were developed in 2015 to train postgraduate students on the advanced concepts and applications in the field of Genetics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.

In consultation with various heads of relevant academic units within the University of Ghana and other relevant stakeholders, the Biotechnology Centre has presently revised its PhD Biotechnology programme to ensure that its graduates become highly equipped and competitive for academic and industrial positions. The programme offers interdisciplinary training that ensures cutting-edge research for the advancement of discoveries in genomics in areas of crop, animal, soil, environmental and food biotechnology. The revised curricula has also upgraded in its content and reading list.

Amis and Objectives
