POST COVID-19 SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT (PSDPEP)
POSTGRADUATE FELLOWSHIP IN BIOTECHNOLOGY
The University of Ghana, through the African Development Bank's Post-COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP), is inviting applications from highly motivated students to pursue postgraduate studies (M.Phil. or Ph.D.) in Biotechnology at the Biotechnology Centre.
The program prioritizes students from science and agriculture disciplines who are interested in pursuing research in biotechnology or related fields. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating significant financial need, including female students, students with special needs, and those who can complete their studies within the designated timeframe.
BACKGROUND
The Republic of Ghana has received financing from the Africa Development Bank Fund towards the cost of the Post Covid-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP) and intends to apply part of the funding to support post graduate training in Biotechnology at the Biotechnology Centre of the University of Ghana.
ELIGIBILITY (Master of Philosophy)
For MPhil students to benefit from the grant under the PSDPEP project, the candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a citizen of any country in West Africa and must be prepared to work in the country of origin after training.
- Must have a good First degree (at least Second Class Upper)
- Applicants must show evidence of official transcript or attestation of having completed course work in home university
- Must not be older than 40 years by the end of the first year of the programme.
- Women are particularly encouraged to apply.
ELIGIBILITY (Doctor of Philosophy)
To qualify for a PhD studentship;
- Must be a citizen of Ghana or from West African sub-region and must be prepared to work in the country of origin after training.
- Must have obtained a Second Class Upper and above in the first degree.
- Must have completed a Masters degree in the Sciences or Agriculture
- Must not be older than 50 years by the end of the first year of the programme.
- Must have innovative research proposal. This also includes the submission of a one-page innovative research mini-proposal.
Women are particularly encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to applicants with special needs and employees of tertiary institutions will be given preference

- One-page motivation statement for the PhD study (heading: motivational statement & your name)
- M.Phil or PhD research proposal of not more than 3 pages (of 1.5-line spacing). This must include a project title, background, including statement of problem, objectives, scope and methodology of applicant’s research and references (Heading: project title & your name)

The Biotechnology Centre will do the initial review of applications. The final selection of awardees will be done by African Development Bank.
